UK government to allow driver-less cars on Pu

London: The UK government will shortly implement measures to permit driver-less cars to use on public roads from January next year.
Currently, autonomous vehicles are only allowed on private roads in Britain.
To support this decision, ministers have ordered to submit a review on the existing road regulations in United Kingdom to provide appropriate guidelines. The civil servants in the country have been asked to submit the review by the end of this year.
The Department for Transport had earlier requested the self driving cars to be trialed on public roads by the end of 2013.
UK engineers, including a group at the University of Oxford, have been experimenting with driver-less cars. But, concerns about legal and insurance matters have so far prevented the vehicles from operating on private roads.
This will cover the need for self-drive vehicles to follow with safety and traffic laws, and involve changes to be made on Highway Code, which applies to England, Scotland and Wales.
Mainly two areas are to be covered by the review. They are on how the rules should be applied to vehicles in which the driver can take back control at short notice, and how the same should be applied to vehicles in which there are no drivers.
