A grieving therapist begins telling his clients exactly what he thinks

In the end, Goldstein talked to Ford and sold him on the role

When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and would audition people who looked like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they had to at least pitch the project to Ford first, thinking he would turn it down outright, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford was offered the project, generating interest from other notable actors.

Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was elated nonetheless. I watched the first two episodes and found them engaging.

I also respect the way it’s presented—he’s not doing something that other therapists are supposed to do, and that’s pretty clear

Part of the reason is that I found there was something grounded in reality about a therapist who needs therapy and wants to communicate with his patients in order to, unexpectedly, overcome his own issues. It doesn’t get into the silly situations that other shows like Loot have, but it’s still early in the series and I’ll keep watching.

The show isn’t for everyone

That said, I like the depth of the characters who don’t feel like caricatures; they’re people I’m interested in getting to know.
