Thiruvananthapuram: Officials from the Archaeological department have inspected the site near the north gate of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple where stone steps resembling the remnants of an old building were found beneath the road. These steps were found by workers a few days ago while digging a trench to install bollards as part of tightening the security of the temple. This is in view of the sayings that invaluable treasures have been kept hide in underground vaults of the temple. The trench having 1.5 m width and depth, was dug across the road around 50 m away from the north gate of the temple. The works were asked to stop works after three granite steps were found on one end of the trench while remains of a foundation on the other end. The temple had annoyed world wide media glare in 2011 when a court-ordered inventory confirmed that there are huge treasures in the underground vaults of the temple.
