New Delhi: Narendra Modi, the Prime Ministerial designate of Bharathiya Janatha Party met senior leaders in the party to discuss matters related to the government formation as party sources indicated that he would post a claim to form the government on May 22.
He visited L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi separately at their residences in the wake of assumptions over their roles in the new government formation.
While sources indicated that Joshi was not interested to joining the government, there were suggestions that Advani may be offered the post of Lok Sabha Speaker.
Sources suggested that Advani would quit as working chairman of the NDA after Modi is elected as BJP parliamentary party leader on May 20.
Modi, according to sources, Modi would suggest May 22nd as the day to form the government. This is just after a day that he is going to be felicitated by the Gujarat Assembly.
The swearing-in ceremony would be in the following week itself.
Meanwhile, BJP president Rajnath Singh held a meeting with senior party leader Arun Jaitley and party general secretaries Amit Shah and Ramlal to discuss issues related to the formation of the new government.
While party sources were kept mum about the internal turns, they wanted to clarify that Modi would be absolutely free in choosing his cabinet and described these meetings as ‘suggestion gathering procedures’.
Party leaders suggested that when Modi takes a final decision on the issue of senior leaders, he will also constitute on the organization’s feedback regarding representation from different states.
