Delhi: The authorities of food and supply in Delhi have conducted raids on gas cylinders of various companies and found that they contain reduced quantity of fuel. Thus they found out the reason for running the gas cylinders out of gas sooner than expected by the customers.
The weights and measures department Delhi have carried out raids on 84 gas agencies and found that 63 among them have been cheating customers on quantity and by other violations. According to the officials they have been continuing this practice for the last one year.
Of the 63 agencies, cases have been registered against two firms who were found as the repeated offenders. If convicted, owners of these agencies face up to six months imprisonment. The remaining dealers were fined up to Rs.10,000 depending on the extent of the violation. Currently, there are 300 authorized agencies supplying cooking gas cylinders in the city.
The raids have revealed that the cylinders being delivered to consumers were weighed less than the prescribed 14.2 kg (excluding the weight of the cylinder). The shortfall amount of gas is found between 200 g and 2.5 kg.
S.S. Yadav, the Commissioner of food and supplies, Delhi said that these raids are to be carried out in the coming days too and stern action will be taken against people who are found guilty.
