Rome: Italy has decided to call back their ambassador to India for protesting against the trial postponement of two of their marines who were accused for allegedly killing two Indian fishermen about two years back.
The Supreme Court in India had decided to set the final trial on Feb. 18, but the court has asked the government to explain by next week whether the two marines accused for killing two Indian fishermen in 2012 can be exempted from trials under stringent anti-piracy law.
According to Italy’s AGI news agency, the hearing of the trial of the two Italian marines has been postponed by the Indian Supreme Court until Feb. 24. They said that the matter is still under the consideration of the Court. Indian judge B. S. Chauhan revealed that there won’t be any more postponement regarding this issue.
Attorney General of India Goolam E. Vahanvati said that the process of charging the marines with terrorism could weaken the set-up of international anti-piracy missions. According to AGI reports the Indian Government is under pressure from the international community.
