Singapore: A 36 year old Indian in Singapore has been jailed for 30 months in addition to the order for three cane strokes for rioting and setting ablaze property during the Little India riot occurred in last December.
He is the 14th Indian to be jailed in the country following the worst violence that occurred in 40 years.
The accused Sarangan Kumaran is said to have found in the Race Course Road area of the Little India city district where a group of workers were surrounding and hitting a bus that had knocked down an Indian national on the night of December 8.
Sarangan is said to have joined with the unlawful assembly to scold police officers and throw projectiles including rocks, large concrete slabs and beer bottles at them and nearby police cars.
As per the Straits Times report, Sarangan had also thrown burning items on the bus. He was photographed while moving a large rock at an overturned police car and throwing a large green plastic rubbish bin at the windscreen of a police vehicle which caused it to crack.
The rioters had injured 54 police personnel including defence officers and damaged 23 emergency vehicles.
