India to assist disabled Afghans with 'Jaipur


Kabul: An Indian organization in Jaipur manufacturing prosthetic legs, have decided to supply artificial limbs to 1,000 physically handicapped Afghan nationals in the war spoilt country free of cost.
Jaipur Foot has signed an agreement with the government of Afghanistan for supplying 1,000 prosthetic legs free of cost to the victims of terrorism as well as to the sufferers of polio ailment.
An agreement regarding this has been signed between Amina Afzali, Minister of Work, Social Affairs, Martyred, and Disabled in Afghanistan and DR Mehta, founder and patron-in-chief of Jaipur Foot.
During the occasion Amina Afzali said to Pajhwok, the Afghan news agency, that the organization would manufacture limbs for those who have lost their legs to roadside bombings, other terrorist attacks and polio ailment.

She has also appreciated the decision of the organization to supply the material free of cost.

According to Afzali, the assistance would further strength the relationship between the two countries.

Indian ambassador to Afghanistan, Amar Sinha, who was presented during that occasion expressed India’s willingness to continue assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
A plan to train staff at the Disabled Technical Institute in Afghanistan to produce such artificial limbs indigenously is under the consideration of the Indian authorities.
During the occasion, the patron chief of the Jaipur foot Mr. Mehta revealed that his organization has already provided prosthetic limbs to more than a million sufferers in the world.
