New Delhi: The Government of India has proposed to name Lt. Gen. Dalbir Singh Suhag as the next Army Chief. This is to fill up the vacancy that arises when the current Chief of Army staff General Bikram Singh retires on July 31 and as per the tradition.
The name of Lt Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag has been forwarded by the defense ministry to the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC). It is said that the government has got a formal clearance from the Election Commission (EC) to go ahead with the process appointing army chief.
A top defense ministry spoke-person confirmed that Lt Gen Suhag, who is currently the Vice Chief of Army Staff, has been recommended for the top post and that he would become Army Chief-designate after approval from the ACC. The ACC clearance is only a technical procedure and his name will be officially announcing within a day or two.
