Langhorne: An aged woman called Loretta Luff staying at Langhorne Manor was working on her laptop. Suddenly her laptop burst off and she was rushed to the hospital with serious burns.
According to authorities it was the lithium-ion battery inside her laptop that caused the explosion. Flames were spread over her upper body while her clothing fully damaged. The carpet inside her home at Comly Avenue was also destroyed.
Luff said that she was using the 6-year-old computer by keeping the same on a desk while the fire broke out suddenly.
There were burns to her arms and face. After the explosion, she ripped off her burning blouse and used it, along with water from her dog’s bowl for extinguishing the flames.
She also hurt her foot as she ran from the room to check on her disabled husband and get him and their dogs out of the smoky house.
Fire investigators had no words regarding the cause of the battery overheat and its explosion thereafter.
It is said that Lithium-ion batteries used in the laptop had been blamed for laptop fires even in the past years.
