Barack Obama becomes the first President to b


Washington: Barack Obama can add this golden event to his credit as being the first U.S. President to have scanned and 3D printed.
Obama is 3D printed while mold of his face displayed on June 18 at the first-ever White House Maker Fair. This was a celebration of students and entrepreneurs who have been using technology to create new products and businesses. It is said that Smithsonian institution is behind this celebration.
A team of Smithsonian 3D digital-imaging specialists had scanned the President earlier this year. They are said to have used the University of Southern California’s Light Stage face scanner to capture Obama’s face in high resolution, while hand-held 3D scanners and SLR cameras to create a reconstruction of his image.
Then experts of 3D graphics at the software company Autodesk produced high-resolution models, which were printed using 3D System’s selective laser Sintering printers.
The scans and printed models will become part of the collections at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, which showcases multiple images of each President. The 3D portraits of Obama will be added to the museum’s current notable collections.
