Pakistan army violates ceasefire along LOC


Jammu: In an effort to assist the infiltration of militants into Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistani troops have been violating the ceasefire along Line of Control (LOC) in Poonch district by targeting Indian posts for the seventh time in 18 days.
A defense spokesperson in Jammu said that the Pakistani troops were started firing from small arms on Indian posts along the LOC in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district from 21:40 hours last night.
Troops guarding the LOC retaliated and the exchange of firing continued for a long time till 2150 hours.
No death, injury or damage have been reported so far from the border line.
Army officials said that the ceasefire violations and firing by Pakistan was aimed to infiltrate more militants into Jammu and Kashmir from across the border.
There had been two infiltration incidents along LoC in Poonch district in the last one week.
On May 10, two militants were killed when Army troops thwarted an infiltration attempt along LoC in Kalsia belt of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
On May 3, troops nullified an attempt of infiltration along LoC in Sawjian belt of Poonch district.
In 2013, 12 jawans were killed and 41 injured under the background of the highest number of ceasefire violations (149) and firing by Pakistan troops on Indian posts, civilian areas and patrolling parties along Indo-Pak border.
