Gorakhpur: The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested two Pakistani nationals, from Gorakhpur city. They were allegedly targeting mosques with the aim of demoralizing the atmosphere during the coming Lok Sabha elections.
Police sources have claimed that they were also supposed to attack the security forces to be deployed in U.P. to conduct free and fair elections.
They have been identified as Mohammad Murtaza and Mohammad Owais, who belong to Pakistan. They are said to have reached Gorakhpur via Nepal border in Sonauli area of Maharjganj district. During their effort to enter India, they first landed at Kathmandu airport and reached the Indo-Nepal border by bus.
It is said that these Pakistanis have been trained in Afghanistan to create insurgencies in India. The initial investigation suggests that they belong to Tehrik-i-Taliban and work in close asociation with Indian Mujahideen groups. They are suicide bombers and were supposed to meet some sleeper cells of their group in Gorakhpur which failed due to communication problems.
The police have recovered two revolvers and an AK 47 gun from their possession. They were in touch with Tehsin Akhtar before he was getting arrested.
Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath claimed that the two Pakistanis had been assigned to target Narendra Modi.
