Beijing: The Chinese Dragon Boat Festival which has a history of more than 2000 years falls on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month in 2014.It usually falls in June As per the Gregorian calendar it usually celebrates during the month of June. This cultural festival is a traditional holiday and commemorates the life and death of the famous Chinese scholar Qu Yuan (Chu Yuan).
During the Dragon Boat Festival people eat rice dumplings, drink real-gar wine, and conduct races of dragon boats. Other activities include hanging icons of Zhong Kui (a mythic guardian figure), hanging mug-wort and calamus, taking long walks, writing spells and wearing perfumed medicine bags.
