New Delhi: An Indian Mujahideen activist who was accused of using funds to carry out bomb blasts in India, was arrested by authorities in Abu Dhabi last week. Indian agencies are trying to establish his identity and bring him to India.
The suspect is believed to be Abdul Wahid Siddibapa who belongs to Bhatkal, a coastal town in Karnataka state. He is said to be a distant relative of IM founders Riyaz and Yasin Bhatkal.
An Interpol red corner notice issued against Wahid says he is wanted for his alleged involvement in a series of bomb blasts in India which include the July 2006 Mumbai blasts, the 2008 Delhi blasts and the 2010 Chinnaswamy Stadium blasts in Bangalore.
Indian security agencies helped by Interpol, are verifying the family and social backgrounds of the man who has been held and are awaiting responses from their Abu Dhabi counterparts.
Home ministry sources said that the NIA officers will go over to Abu Dhabi to present evidence against Wahid if his identity is established once.
According to the case history of Wahid available with the Indian agencies, the 32-year-old terrorist is alleged to have routed money sent by Riyaz and Iqbal Bhatkal through banks and Western Union Money Transfer prior to the series of blasts in India.
