Sydney: Australia won the ashes cricket series with England by defeating the tourists 5-0. The home team defeated England by 281 runs in the fifth and last Test in Sydney. This enabled them to win the five matches ‘Ashes’ series by a clean sweep. The Australians were in tremendous form and dismissed the tourists for just 166 runs within 31.4 over’s.
Earlier, skipper Alastair Cook (7), Ian Bell (16) and Kevin Petersen (6) all fell in the middle session while the depressed tourists managed to reach tea time on the third day. They reached 87 for three by chasing an incredible 448 runs for victory, with more than two days still to go. The home team was dismissed for 276 runs in their second innings shortly after lunch. The highlight of this innings was a magnificent 119 by Chris Rogers.
