In primitive times there ware Gurukul education systems in India. Later famous universities like Thakshashila, Nalanda, Vikramshila and Viswabharathi started functioning. These were specific examples of the desire for knowledge by the people of India. Nowadays the education system in India is very much advanced. This can be understood from the number of professionals and researchers coming out of the educational institutions every year. At present schools, colleges, Universities, research centers and other professional institutions are abundantly found in India.
When compared to other countries, the education system in India has some peculiarities. The control of education system in India is in the hands of the government. There are also facilities to educate aged people in India who are illiterate. Certain Indian universities offer distant education system also.
