Erwadi is a famous Muslim pilgrim center which locates about 24 km away from Rameshwaram. It belongs to the Kadaladi Taluk of Ramanathapuram District in southern Tamil Nadu. This is a marvelous seashore town lying in between Keelakarai and Valinokkam beaches.
Large number of devotees from various locations and countries visit the holy shrine irrespective of their cast creed and religion. Devotees from Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Singapore used to visit the Erwadi shrine. Hence, this Dargah is a religious harmony prevailing center in the state of Tamil Nadu in India.
The main attraction here in the shrine is the tomb of Sultan Ibrahim Syed Aulia who was an ancient Muslim saint arrived from Saudi Arabia about 800 years ago. In the month of December every year, Muslims from all over the country visit the place and participate in the annual celebration called Santhakoodu Uroos festival to offer tribute to the great saint.
It is believed that people suffering from satanic illness are cured from this holy shrine, if they get the eternal blessings from the tomb of the saint who belongs to the holy land Saudi Arabia. Hence large number of ailing people visit the shrine with an expectation to get their unwellness cured completely. Even though Erwadi is a small town, it is the second largest revenue source of Ramanathapuram District.
